On Sunday, July 26th, members of the Mumbai group visited Bal Kalyan Nagari, Mankhurd, which is a shelter for needy children. The meeting was organised because one of the members, Shri Ganesh Naik, had some suggestions for the progress of the children in this shelter, since there is no body to encourage them. Following are the initiatives taken by Ganesh
(1) He has donated 20 chairs for the library room. These chairs are with a small writting arm. (2) He has donated 20 umbrellas for the students to be chared in Monsoon. (3) He has anounced two scholarships for the students. (i) Best student-one who is good to every body, is helpful, is cultured. A panal of members will elect the student on recommendations from the ashram authorities. (ii) A student who has overall good performance and has also secured more than 70% marks in the 10th standard. THe number can be increased when more volunteers come forward to donate for the cause. Three cheers to Ganesh hip Hip Hurrye. The meeting was attended overwhelmingly by the students and volunteers. (1) Students expressed that they would like to get coaching for science and mathematics. Drs. Paranjpe readily agreed to arrange for such a coaching from amongst scientists of BARC, since Bal Kalyan Nagari just accross the road to Anushakti Nagar. (2) Shri Kamble, who is in charge of the Ashram expressed the need for 10 more chairs. This was agreed upon. (3) It has been decided that one student who is capable and wants to persuade further education will be given support each year. (4) Anurag Sharma has agreed to help the students for landskaping the gardens with their own help. Members of the team mingled with the resident children. It was a unique experience.
