Friends It is shocking news that daily there is a report of children/youngsters committing suicide. Around 10 youngsters have already died in the past two three days. Some, in the age group of 12-13, just because they failed in the six monthly exam. One girl, because she failed in first year mbbs, first semester exam. She was expecting high rank. Many questions arise about our educational system. The pressure we have on the children. The faulty examination system. Favoritism by teachers (when very good students fail in exams). It is a very serious matter. We need to modify the education policy. We need to discuss what changes to make and how to implement these. I had been to Aurangabad from 12th to 16th Dec. There I met a set of students, who were graduates, but without jobs. One boy told me, he did his MA, BEd. For that, his father sold 4 acres of land. And, his only dream was to become a teacher. However, to get teachers job, he has to shelve Rs 16 lakh, which he cannot afford. So, these youngsters told me, they want to burn their degrees, which cannot fetch them jobs. It is again a serious matter. I told them to write what education they feel is right in order to earn a livelihood. I have suggested these son's of farmers that they go back to their villages. That we should do something to make farming profitable. That we should have vocations related to farming so as to earn a living in their villages
Another person did get a job in a school after paying the money. I visited his village house. His father is BSc. He has three more uncles who are under educated. His father says he earns enough by doing properly planned farming, but none of his children are interested in farming. This is again a serious matter. For the family. But more so for the Nation. After this generation, if the youngsters are not interested in farming, what do we do about farm produce? This is a common scenario I have observed across the country. We have to come up with a proper solution for these problems. We can evolve some model for these problems. Let us discuss how to make farming profitable. What vocations can be taught to make a living in the villages. How education and jobs should be related. With warm regards Akalpita
