Prof Gupta's email speaks volumes for today's business culture.
What we are seeing is the Ameican-isation of businesses ! Remember business has
been done since time immemorial. But earlier, organisations had a face. When
there was a problem, you could speak to a "person (as opposed to a computer or
a call centre executive with no power); and, if the grievance was not timely
and adequately redressed,  you could even go to their office for a personal
discussion. However, today, many of these so-called "professionally managed"
organisations do business from ivory towers and do not even give their postal
addresses or telephone numbers.

However, it is no use lamenting. We alone are responsible for this sorry state
of affairs. We ape the west blindly and believe all that is American or
European (indeed even from
Dubai !) is great !

Too bad, Prof Gupta. I fully commiserate with you.

As usual in India customer service and honesty is rare. Most big names
like Tata-AIG are running call centers for aggressive selling of insurance
products.False promises are made and amount is immediately debited to your
credit card account. They promise to send policy in a week's time .Then your tun
begins to phone them repeatedly and every time different answers and reasons
are given.Your money is stuck up and you develop mental harassment and wastage
of money and time.

No one listens. This is clear cut case of unethical marketing and
unsatisfactory treatment will be given in case of claims if unfortunately come
up.

Same is situation of many insurance policy websites by private parties run on
Internet.they will debit your card or take money and then drag issue for
months.Your money is also at risk with potential for legal action that may be
required.

Insurance is a business of solicitation and insurer is not supposed to take
money unless product is finalised and eligibility is ensured by insurer or
their representative.

But here reverse is going on.Money is taken immeidately online and then no
responses are given except for computerised response.

I have had extremely bad experience with two such cases .

My money is stuck up at both cases and several mails and phone calls have no
effect and that includes Tata-AIG general Insurance Co.Ltd.

They have done this with me twice and not once. They have not refunded my money
till today.

Therefore it is advisable that avoid online transactions for insurance
products in particular and other products in general .there are very few
companies who have good service and delivery record online in my experience
like flipkart.com and Blue Dart etc.

Avoid online business offers with Indian companies.

Issued in public interest.
