Friends,

As declared by us earlier, the National
RTI Forum has instituted the “RTI Gallantry award”. This is our
endeavour to salute some of the RTI activists, who through their work and
conduct, have made an indelible mark on the society and who have faced all
kinds of hardships and difficulties in life for the sake of their personal vow
and allegiance to the true implementation of the RTI Act. We had announced that
we shall be choosing three such RTI activists whose dedication, commitment and
valour for the sake of the Right to Information distinguishes them from the
rest of us. The three awards were named as Satish Shetty Gallantry award,
Shashidhar Mishra
Gallantry award and Lalit
Mehta Gallantry award.

As a brief
introduction again, Sri Satish Shetty, was an RTI activist from
Pune (Mahgarashtra) who had exposed many land scams in Maharashtra, Sri
Shashidhar
Mishra,
popularly known as ‘Khabri Lal’ was an activist from Begusarai (Bihar) who
exposed
scams in the welfare schemes and Sri Lalit Kumar Mehta was a the Right to
Food and Right to Work campaigner in Palamau, Jharkhand.

The three awards are open to all Indians. They shall be presented only to the
Individuals and not to any organization or association. For this purpose, we
constituted
a 9
member Jury from the Forum with Sri Utkarsh Sinha, our Vice President as
the Chairman of this Jury.

The
details and emails of the Jury members is as follows-

In the meanwhile,
the event of the brutal murder of Sri Amit Jethwa has taken place. This
brave RTI activist and environmentalist was also associated with the National
RTI Forum as its State Coordinator at Gujarat. This sudden and unexpected
situation led the Jury to decide to confer the Satish Shetty Gallantry award to
Sri Amit Jethwa, the brave soldier from Khamba who made the supreme sacrifice
for
the sake of justice and better governance. Thus the Jury shall now be deciding
about the Shashidhar Mishra Gallantry award and Lalit Mehta
Gallantry award.
