Based on the followup, do not even attempt tot install the input manager.  

- Download this version of TeXShop

http://homepage.mac.com/amaxwell/.Public/TeXShop.app.zip

- Unzip it, and open a .tex file in it.

- Launch BibDesk and open your .bib file in BibDesk.

- In TeXShop, type a partial citation such as "\cite{a" (no quotes) and hit 
opt-esc

Use the mouse or keystrokes to select appropriately or refine the search.
