yes and no. When it should show you the braces it does, otherwise it doesn't.

Hi Hanna,

include it in curly braces:
{United Nations}

then bibtex will leave it as is.

The citations I've downloaded from EBSCO for the last month or so have
extra data at the end of the year field. Some examples:

2007/12//
2008/07//Jul-Sep2008
2003///

That goofs things up with my APA export templates, which typically
require only a single year (or range of years) in that field.

Is there a fix for this?

Thnx! -c

I also see this, most commonly associated with RIS download from
Biomed Central, Science Direct, and several journal sites that seem
use similar software (for example, Sage Online at online.sagepub.com). The RIS record line starting with PY contains the year as a four digit
number, and this may be followed on the same line by a space and the
month as text, or slashes separating the month and issue number from
the year (as below). BibDesk 1.3.20 imports the whole line into the
year field. I haven't tried the latest nightlies. BibTex citations
from those sites (if available) don't have the problem.

instrument to assess people's willingness to communicate about their
health and to see how this communication predisposition might be
related to health information-seeking behaviors and patient
assertiveness. The researchers discuss the development of the
Willingness to Communicate about Health (WTCH) scale, and they report
findings from a study that assessed the WTCH scale using two distinct
samples. The results of the study found similarities for the WTCH
scale item factor solutions across samples, a relationship between the
WTCH and the larger willingness to communication predisposition, and
the scale was found to be related to both information-seeking
behaviors and patient assertiveness. Finally, the researchers discuss
validity and reliability issues surrounding the WTCH measure and
potential applications of the scale in health communication contexts.

Thanks, Christiaan!

FYI... I'm not sure about other styles (or compatibility with BibText
standards), but APA citations do use year ranges (e.g., 2006-2007) for
some works, such as multi-volume works.

Just thought I'd mention it, as it may impact the process for
truncating that string (if that was the plan.)
