I don’t know what you mean by “freshly installed”. Installing a new BibDesk
does not reset the preferences. But when you *first* install BibDesk, or after
you have explicitly deleted the preferences, that option will not be checked. I
can see that myself and I also see this in the source code (it’s in the file
Preferences.plist in the app bundle).
