~~~I just measured the front Conti Contact.  It's 35 mm wide and 33 mm
tall, and the height (tall?) measurement is measuring from the rim
edge where it meets the tire then eyeballing to the top of the tire,
so if the 700X50 Big Apple is 46 mm tall (or thereabouts), it will,
unfortunately, be too big to fit into the X frame
I was hoping the circumference was close to what I have (the pair of
Conti Contacts) on there now.  The tire size marked on the sidewall is
(622X37)
What I've done is to convert my Surly LHT into a cargo bike of sorts
by adding Xtracycle's free rad frame to the back of my LHT.  Again,
the oe rear tire just fits into that frame with a few mm's to spare.
I was hoping to put the wider Big Apple tire on the back (and on the
front as well) thinking that 700X50 Big Apple tire was just wider than
the OE tire and not a larger O.D. tire
So if the Big Apple tire grows in height as well as in width, so be
it.  I am thinking strongly of fitting a front Big Apple anyway if for
no other reason than hand/arm comfort
The free rad is a great idea but I'm going to assume the X folks
originally planned it only for 26" wheels and the 700c option was an
afterthought because the 700c wheel will fit, with tires like the
622/37 mm Conti Contacts that I have, but since it is a cargo bike, it
would be nicer to have a wider more comfortable tire out back and a
bigger tire will safely allow more loading.  I've had up to an 80 lb
payload on the back so far
I could fit a 26" disc hub wheel and run the big rubber but that would
ultimately lessen the distance between the ends of my crank arms
(pedals) and the road, something I'm not willing to do at this point
Anywho, no need for you to fit a Big Apple onto a 700c wheel and
measure Peter but thanks for offering
