I have tried this and did not have success with a Chris King headset.
If you already have the headset installed you can just test the
resistance between the front and rear dropouts (where bare metal is
exposed).  Try comparing the resistance between the front and rear
dropouts to resistance between the two front dropouts. I found that
while current flowed there was enough resistance that it did not work
and ended up running Schmidt coaxial cable, which looks like single
conductor wire anyway, albeit a bit beefier.
