I love using the Thumbies. Not sure exactly why you're having the
difficulty you relate. The left hand shifter has a lock nut that
allows you to get the friction on the shifter correct. The right hand
shifter doesn't seem to need that feature because the shifter is
indexed, so you don't need to tighten it as much.
