HI Roman,
On the specific issue of making the downloads page automatically show the
closest mirror, i can take a shot.
We could have a basic form on the home page, that either lets the browser
obtain a location fix or alternatively lets them input a location ('san jose,
ca'). We would still need the server side to have an in memory-map that
translates coordinates to mirror-urls, and the response from the server can be
JSON, so that the front end form can do an ajax.
Please advise if this is feasible. if the server side is java, i can take a
shot at both server side and front-end fixes. if the server side is something
else, i can either pick it up, or someone else can provide me an api that will
either take a coordinate pair or a location-string, and return a JSON object.
