bikramjit ganguly commented on BIGTOP-302:
------------------------------------------

i think perhaps even a 64bit processor does not automatically guarantee
hardware based virtualisation? i think i saw a list of intel chips that do
support virtualisation, but i am not sure if all of the 64bit chips (even among
intel) will support virtualisation.

> 1. Start a separate Wiki page on Installing Bigtop in VMs (VirtualBox) (make
> sure to record the fact that one needs >> 2GB of RAM) 2. Record the
> experience with 32bit OSes

> I was able to successfully run a 64-bit guest OS (ubuntu) on a 32-bit host OS
> with a 64-bit processor using VirtualBox. This required changes to the BIOS
> settings to enable hardware based virtualization support. Where do we
> document this ? "How to install Hadoop distribution from Bigtop" wiki page
> might not be the right place.. Do we create another wiki page for
> virtualBox/VM installation instructions ?
