Madison's Commission on the Environment met today. They discussed
the Capital City trail fee. Chuck Strawser and I spoke out as
to why we were opposed to the fee, and why its important
to keep the trail free. Commission member Mike 'highwayman' Rewey
pointed out that DOT only funded the trail because it was
billed as transportation. Other good comments were made
(5 of the members are regular bike commuters).
The commission passed 2 motions
[I'll try to get the exact wording ].
* requesting that the county to keep the trail free and open.
* requesting that the county and city to
work together, to lobby the state Joint Finance commission,
to direct some portion of state gas taxes to maintenance
of bike trails.
That made my day.
