Bikies,
This is not exactly topical but I thought people on the list might be interested
in the Better Lawns and Gutters Tour this Sunday sponsored by the Dane County Lakes &
Watershed Commission, Greater Madison Healthy Lawn Team, Madison Audubon, and The UW
Arboretum. This is a tour of rain gardens and native plant gardens that aims to show
people how to help prevent runoff from their lawns. The tour is from Noon-4 PM,
Sunday, June 15. The UW Arboretum's McKay Center Lobby, 1207 Seminole Highway, is the
information center for the tour and will be open Noon-5 PM.
Pick up a brochure at the information center that includes a list of rain
gardens, lawns, and native gardens on the tour and includes a map of where the tour
sites are. The tour is also a Yahara Lakes Week event.
Finally, in the name of full disclosure, I have a self-interest in promoting the
tour because my lawn, er native garden, is on the tour. While native gardens don't
necessarily relate to bicycling, they do improve the biking environment and a number
of people on the list have been active in putting native plants along the SW Path
including my wife and me. So come on out. Better yet, do the tour by bike and really
be environmentally conscious.
