At least one law enforement agency is doing something, though it is
still amazing how little effort the police seem to be putting in to help
bicyclists recover their property.

When April Nett found her bicycle on craigslist and informed the police:

"Legally, the police told me they couldn't do anything, which is why I
told them what I was planning on doing," Nett said. "They strongly
discouraged me from meeting the guy and said they were concerned about
my personal safety."

This is pathetic. The police will file an incident report for $20 of
stolen gasoline (which later gets picked up on the evening news), but
they can't do a damn thing about a stolen bicycle?
