Wow! That was fast! The sprawlmeisters' eyes & ears are everywhere.
(Probably right here: http://www.michaelbest.com/home.cfm).
The good village president neglects to mention that a
"self-sufficient" community wouldn't need a bigger Highway 14. And
just how "self-sufficient" can they be given that their lifeline to
jobs in Madison is 80% federally funded?

P.s. There was a "Black Earth Creek Exhibit.pdf" attached in the
original email, but it is over 5 MB huge--too huge for an email list.
To be fair, (what? --a terrorist in a fair fight?) I tried to find a
link for it, but couldn't find it. Maybe their lawyers could help me
out there. In any case, it was a map of your typical suburban
ugliness hard by USH 14 for that quick commute to Madison. Oh, yeah,
it also had a walking trail going through all those giant suburban
back yards.

P.p.s. Where's Dick Cheney when you need him?!

Subject: Mazomanie Growth
Dear Ald. Palmer,
I'm annoyed that we continue to be targeted by slanderous
anti-development, zero growth terrorist groups for our plans to
become a self sufficient community. I find it comical that the
loudest voices in opposition like Maria Van Cleve, Andy Harris and
Sue Beil are all rural, prime farmland, unsewered, low density
sprawl homeowners who are hell bent at stopping people from getting
the kinds of homes they've managed to get for themselves. Our
development plans are so strict that none of their homes would have
been allowed. We have done a superior job as land stewards in
managing our Village, and our local citizens and elected officials
will continue to be the best people to plan for our future.
We have assembled a broad coalition of environmental organizations
(including BECWA), developers, businesses, private landowners and
citizens into a advisory group for the expansion and preservation of
a watershed / greenspace / recreation trails corridor along the
Black Earth Creek through Mazomanie that incorporates 2 other feeder
creeks and 3 parks and a safe route to our High School. This will
be the "crown jewel" of our community. We plan to become the
regional recreation trail hub between Devils Lake State Park and
Madison, and have been working many years now to enlist the support
of every community along the route. The Faga development is
participating in our efforts with greenspace trail contributions to
create a "regional treasure" that will benefit everyone for
generations to come. I've attached our greenspace plan for you to
review and hope you will help us rather than put more hurdles in our
path.
