Group: AIG's woes put public transit in trouble with banks
http://tinyurl.com/6l4sf9

Story Highlights:

* AIG insured deals in which transit agencies sold, then leased back,
equipment

* AIG's rating was downgraded after the federal bailout

* Because of downgrade, banks can demand early payments from transit
agencies

* Transit agencies ask federal government to intervene, prevent early
collection

---

Good transit is good for urban bicycling because it both promotes
compact development that makes for access efficiency, and provides an
efficient fallback for emergency situations (like snowstorms) where a
car is not available.
