Actually, if you think about it you can get away with some simple and
well insulated mittens if you ride a single speed or fixie because you
don't have any fiddly shifter bits to deal with that would require
digits.  Mittens will be warmer then gloves, lobster or otherwise.

I too have been dissapointed with the PI lobster gloves, for me they
are good in a narrow range from 20-35.  Above that they are too warm
and they don't breath well so my hands get sweaty, and below that they
are not warm enough, even with a liner.

I second the reccomendation for the Moose Mitts.  I am in love with
mine, third winter with them now, they keep my hands very warm and my
fingers are stil dexterous underneath.  Baring a nasty crash, I don't
see why they wouldn't last indefinitly, so that $65 price tag will be
spread out over many years of use.
