I believe the Mayor is on the wrong track by suggesting this is a choice
between low fares and high levels of service and Jeff is on the right
track by suggesting funding alternatives to make both low fares and high
levels of service a reality. Clearly Madison bus riders, and the
Majority of the TPC, want both but are being forced by the Mayor and
Common Council to choose.

>From a bicycle advocacy perspective, this is an extremely important test
case that could force the council members who voted for road expansion
and against low bus fares to actually explain why expanding roads is
taking the priority in these continued times of decreased driving and
increased bus ridership. As someone who frequently speaks in favor of
bicycling issues, I am often puzzled as to the logic of the road
expanders on the council. Exposing their thinking to some daylight
could lead to a combination of changing their thinking and us bike
advocates being able to come up with more persuasive arguments to
present at the next juncture.

Fight on!
