This article is in today's NY Times and describes new research showing that ibuprofin may inhibit or delay healing of the minor muscle tears and other effects of extended exercise (NSAIDs inhibit production of prostaglandins; prostaglandins promote production of collagen; less collagen=less healing and strengthening), and actually increases inflammation if taken before or during exercise. Some of the research seems less than convincing, but it suggests that athletes should examine how much and how often we use this stuff.
