Dear Madison Bikies, I’d like to personally invite you all to support the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin and attend the Saris Gala on October 9 at the Saris Cycling Group headquarters in Madison.
The Gala is Madison's must-attend bike advocacy event! - Live Auction featuring 6 once-in-a-lifetime bike experiences like a trip for two to ride in Italy’s Granfondo Pinarello and mountain biking in California with Gary Fisher. - Silent Auction including rare autographed prints/jerseys and a huge assortment of cycling products. - Special Guests including Taylor Phinney (America's newest and best hope to win a Tour de France), Axel Merckx (Olympic medalist and son of legendary Eddy Merckx), Connie Carpenter-Phinney (Taylor's mother and Olympic gold medalist), Robbie Ventura (former Lance Armstrong teammate), Gary Fisher (iconoclastic inventor of the mountain bike) and Dr. Allen Lim (preeminent cycling physiologist). Doors open at 6pm on Oct. 9. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased at www.bfw .org This year’s Saris VIP Garden Party is your opportunity to personally meet and chat with Axel Merckx and all of our special guests. Please join us for a private celebration before the Gala under a tent on the Saris patio. The VIP Garden Party is on Oct. 9 from 5:00-6:00pm and includes two admissions to the VIP party, 2 admissions to the Gala, a Golden Raffle Ticket, and a photo of you with our special guests. The Bike Fed works to make each ride better than the last, and is responsible for significant legislative victories that have made biking in Wisconsin safer and more enjoyable. The 2009 successes are: - Statewide Complete Streets Legislation - Wisconsin is now one of a few states to have passed this innovative legislation. - $5 million funding for Bicycling Infrastructure - The 2010-2011 Wisconsin state budget contains the first-ever state funded source for bicycle infrastructure. - Statewide Dooring Legislation - Wisconsin's Dooring Law will aid cyclists by clarifying lack of liability in a dooring incident and enabling cyclists to press for damages in court. The programming locally in Madison has been no less amazing. - Bike to Work Week: 2009 event was the most successful to date. - Ride the Drive: Bike Fed recruited and organized over 115 volunteers to support the 15,000 participants of this inspiring event. - Madison Safe Routes to School: Bike Fed is working with the bike industry, the Madison School District, and community groups to write and implement a Safe Routes to School Plan that will dramatically increase the number of Madison kids who bike and walk to school.
