That's funny. Different modes, but still a situation where if the item is for 
another form of travel it gets charged, but if for stationary use, doesn't.

Yeah, a more predictably enforced policy would be good. And may make sense to 
have a backbreaking-takes-up-a-lot-of-space-when-laid-flat fee for unboxed 
bikes, but when boxed I doubt they take up much more room than a bunch of 
luggage.

Anybody out there, by the way, know if regional buses can be fitted with racks 
like city buses? Or doesn't that work because of highway speeds? (Which, 
granted, Metro drivers sometimes approach.) Any other way to accommodate? Part 
of the reason I didn't box my bike was I was using it for next leg of journey 
and didn't know what I'd do with the box.
