Sort of cool, except that it's really hard to tell that they're bike racks - esp. that second picture - and it's hard to tell exactly how one might lock to them with a u-lock. I scrolled through the comments and saw that one poster wrote that a city employee almost cut through a person's bike frame to remove it from the "artwork," but the bike owner was fortunate enough to get back in time to intervene.
Why not just put in regular bike racks in funky colors? Sounds fun enough to me. BTW, I think the bike racks outside of the WORT station on Bedford are the best in town -- I wish more folks would install such. WORT used to also have a funky art rack, but it got stolen. Also, it wasn't the easiest to lock up to and could scratch your frame. I wouldn't consider it such a loss, if it hadn't resulted in too few bike parking spaces.
