I haven't used Kendall Ave. as a commuting route for a long time, but when I did, I noticed that on one of the blocks toward the east end of the street, the pavement tilted toward the north (downhill) side; when the street was slippery, this was a bit of a problem.

The block between Franklin and Farley was covered in significant ice for multiple weeks last winter, and when I would report the issue, I was told that since it wasn't a major thoroughfare, they wouldn't apply any salt at all. The road surface was fine for cars, but hazardous for a bicycle. In my 1.5-mile commute from home to UWHC by bike, it was the one block that slowed me to a crawl. Parallel streets were similarly bad. I can't comment on it this winter since I don't commute to the hospital much now...while I'm all for reducing salt usage, this was an example of how it was potentially preventing bike commuting.
