While it's good to know that Shorewood Hills police are enforcing stop signs on that bike path, implying through "'all we're asking is that bicyclists slow down so they're able to stop if a car is there," that they are interested in safety and crash prevention, unfortunately this is NOT the case with the Madison Police Dept. The MPD is stopping bicyclists in isolated locations for not coming to a complete stop or for going through stop lights after stopping for most of the light--in other words, they appear intent on revenue enhancement rather than promoting safety or targeting the many bicyclists who ride dangerously.
I have heard of this activity both on State St. and on East Dayton near Blount and Blair. Be warned! It would be nice if MPD were to be conscious of the "Idaho laws" and only enforced the motor vehicle laws that pose a risk to safety. That apparently is not the case with MPD.
