The average number of fatalities over the five-year span of 2004 to 2008 was 11. I didn't word that very well in the story.
I have attached the spread sheet with the fatality statistics. Note: The DOT counts cyclists killed in collisions with motor vehicles. A recent case in which a cyclist in Appleton fell into the road and was run over by a car is counted as a pedestrian fatality. I am confused about the following statement from the news story Robert posted. Thank you, Paddy Rourke "Nine cyclists were killed on Wisconsin roads in 2010, one below the five-year average, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. At the same point in 2010, the number of cycling fatalities also stood at four." On 08/02/11, "Robert F.
