I'm not sure what is to be gained by it either other than some nice-looking signs; it's a quiet, low-traffic street. Years ago, when the district was represented by another city council member, opponents to reconfiguring North Sherman to improve safety asserted that we didn't need bike lanes on North Sherman because bicyclists could use Huxley. (Huxley is parallel to Ruskin and is slightly longer a street than Ruskin--Ruskin ends across from the side of the Northgate strip mall, and Huxley continues one more block south past the North Transfer Point (there's also a little discontinuous stub of Ruskin that runs between Hartmeyer and the Hartmeyer parking lot)).) The problem, however, is that you can't go any farther south on either of those streets, so you still eventually need to back onto North Sherman. So, sure, if you want to make the detour off North Sherman, either of those streets gives you several blocks of relief from traffic, but you still need to go back onto North Sherman if you want to go from the Northside to somewhere else... and you can already do that now. -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web.com – Enhanced email for the mobile individual based on Microsoft® Exchange - http://link.mail2web.com/Personal/EnhancedEmail _______________________________________________ Bikies mailing list [email protected] http://lists.danenet.org/listinfo.cgi/bikies-danenet.org
