Title:

Transportation Services Bicycle Assistant

Background:

UW Transportation Services provides innovative transportation solutions
that serve and support the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our objective
is to sustain and strengthen our programs while amplifying customer
service, accelerating multimodal transportation initiatives, and using
advanced technology to stay on the cutting edge transportation state of
practice.

Commuter Solutions is a sub-unit of Transportation Services that provides
planning and customer service on a wide variety of alternatives to driving
a car alone to campus. The modes that we serve include walking, bicycling,
transit, carpooling, and vanpooling. We provide support services including
route planning, flexible parking, emergency ride home, car sharing, bike
sharing, and nighttime safety assistance. For more information, visit *

For many years UW Transportation Services Commuter Solutions has made
available to the university community a self-service bicycle repair center
in lot 60 called the Bike Annex. In September of 2012 we will celebrate the
grand opening of the University Bicycle Resource Center (UBRC) in the
basement of Helen C White Library (lot 6). The new center will replace the
Bike Annex and allow us to expand bicycle-related programs. The UBRC will
be open to the university community throughout the week during consistent
hours for drop-in, self-service bicycle repair and advice on bicycle
commuting and other alternatives to driving alone. In addition, once per
month, the UBRC will host a special event, typically a class, ride,
lecture, or movie, related to bicycling. An associated on-going promotional
campaign will reinforce bicycle safety and educational messages highlighted
through the UBRC.
