Hmm, this may be shutting the barn door after the horse has left, but seeing the pedestals on a recent SWP trek gave me a thought. As a reach-out to the dark-sky folks, could these be lights be rigged with motion sensors up and down the path, so they go on as users approach, and go off behind them? Wonder how expensive such a system might be. Could they be so retro-fitted? Just a thought.....

I was heading out the Southwest Path for the first time in a while Wednesday afternoon, and noticed the new lights had been installed. I was explaining the controversy over the lights to my visiting sister-in-law when I encountered Madison City Engineering trucks installing them. They had been installed that very day!
I'm looking forward to a safer evening commute this winter.
