Article about what intersections have the most bike-motor vehicle crashes. http://host.madison.com/news/local/city-life/where-are-madison-s-most-dangerous-places-for-bike-car/article_4b381884-1a63-11e3-998e-001a4bcf887a.html
(wow, really long url. don't usually use bit.ly for local articles, but maybe this one needs it.) One caveat, as always: The only crashes reported are those involving an injury or more than $1000 damage to one vehicle. As we all know, many bicyclists do not report their crashes, so these numbers are very low. Sometimes we don't think we are hurt, but later find out we are. Sometimes we jump up and ride away, or the motorist asks, "Are you OK?" and we blurt out, "Yes." without thinking. Sometimes even the cops convince us not to bother with a report. Oh, and only crashes involving a motor vehicle are reported to the state, so those between two bicyclists, or a bike and a pedestrian, or a crash because of poor roadway conditions or falls on ice aren't included. Result: We don't have good data on bike crashes. Robbie Webber Transportation Policy Analyst State Smart Transportation Initiative www.ssti.us 608-263-9984 (o) [email protected]
