For those who have never seen this cartoon, check out BikeyFace: http://bikeyface.com/2013/11/25/utilityvsport/
Today's issue is "Utility vs. Sport." That is, non-biking friends and colleagues that see to think riding a bike to the store requires all sorts of special clothing. Of course, living in Boston, she probably also gets the question, "Don't you get cold in the winter?" My favorite answer is something along the lines of, "Yes, but I'd be cold doing just about anything outdoors in January, including scraping the ice off my windshield and waiting for the car to warm up. Since I have clothes suitable to walk to the bus stop, shovel the sidewalk, XC ski, and shop on State St, I figure I can wear the same clothes to go to work." (But that's too long for a cartoon panel.) Robbie Webber Transportation Policy Analyst State Smart Transportation Initiative www.ssti.us 608-263-9984 (o) [email protected]
