Hey bikies,

Does anyone have a contact at the city for plowing? I submitted the concern
below, but wanted to try to speak with someone as this seems to be an
general issue with our plowing protocols.

Basically, bike lanes are often plowed, but are subsequently refilled with
a smaller volume of high viscosity sludge when a FINA cleanup pass is
performed on the main roadways. The solution would seem to be including the
bike lanes in this final cleanup pass, though I imagine that could require
additional runs and higher costs. If it's not done, however, the bike lanes
are essentially rendered unusable or at best, highly dangerous.

Any contact would be appreciated. Thanks!

Grant

Bikeway Information
Date of Request:12/11/2013
Request Type:Snow and Ice
Location Type:Between Addresses
On Street:E. Johnson
Other Location Details:The length of E. Johnson. (I specifically
experienced Broom to Blair, but assume the conditions apply to the entire
segment.)

The same issue was experienced on Fish Hatchery Rd, especially near the
intersection with Park St.
Problem Description:Bike lane was plowed, but final passes of the main road
were plowed into the bike lane.

This leaves a bike lane with very uneven and dangerous conditions. The
sludge that remains is quite thick in sections (2 inches or more) and
causes the front end of a bicycle to wash out easily (even with studded
tires). Given the relatively narrow bike lane and close proximity to MV
traffic, this is an extremely dangerous situation and essentially renders
the lane unsafe for use, even for the most capable
