I just got back from the meeting. Bike-relevant points:
- Narrowing the roadway by two feet appears to be off the table. Both
people interested in cycling and not interested in cycling spoke against
narrowing.
- Intersection bulb-outs were relatively uncontroversial. However, the city
scaled them back after people complaining against them sticking out too far
into the travel lane. I asked if there was data if bulb outs would still be
an effective traffic calming measure, but city says not to have data on
that (and didn't seem particularly interested in changing that).
- Metro seems to be against anything that would reduce bus speeds on the
corridor. Opinion was split between those who want to leave everything as
is versus some who would like to remove bus traffic from Jenifer Street.
Reducing the number of bus stops (which would allow Metro to keep their
schedules even with traffic calming) apparently is off the table after the
strong protests earlier this year.
- Adding shared lane markings ("sharrows") seemed very uncontroversial.
- There were a number of people advocating for adding stop signs, either at
specific intersections or all along the corridor, with some people calling
them the "ultimate traffic calming." I spoke out against that from the
perspective of people cycling, and that seemed to well received. But I
would encourage everyone to strongly speak out against stop signs.

I couldn't bring myself to stay until the end when people would have been
able to "vote" on the various suggested measures. Community meetings are
bad for my blood pressure.

 Harald.
