The Fitchburg Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan update draft will be presented to the Committee of the Whole 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, April 27, at the City Hall Council Chambers.Fitchburg residents and bike facility users are invited to attend the meeting, said Mayor Steve Arnold to members of the Fitchburg Bicycle Advocates this week. The city is updating its 2008 bike/ped plan for 2016. The city's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is overseeing the update. No action will be taken at Wednesday's meeting as the Committee of the whole will be updated on the plan process. There will be a public information meeting and open house in which the Draft Plan Update will be presented in mid or late 2016, according to the committee agenda. Considerations for the 2016 update will be to review completed projects and status of current projects off the 2008 plan; continue recommendations from the 2008 plan and identify current deficiencies. Other considerations is to develop new bike/ped infrastructure and policies for current and future projects, bike parking standards, intersection treatments, and a bike sharing program. The city has hired Community Design Group, Minneapolis, MN, to be the design consultant.
