attached information about the day of the event.
We are still in need of volunteers especially for on the course. If you

Volunteer Role Descriptions
REGISTRATION STATION:
We have 130-150 participants, plus their adult chaperones registered for
this event. All participants will
be given a nametag and an event bag.
HELMET FITTERS:
Kids should first sign the banner pledge and collect a Schwinn sticker.
Then they will be fitted for a
helmet with your assistance.
BIKE INSPECTORS
Most of you will be located by check in and a couple will be assigned to
the course. If you have an
adjustable wrench, pedal wrench or other bike tools, please feel free bring
them. We have tools, but
could always use more. Participants should be coming with their bikes
adjusted. This includes:
lowering the seat, removing training wheels and pedals. If not, then we
will help them to do so. As they
master the steps, you will then help put pedals back on bikes for kids who
are ready to ride.
COURSE TRAINERS
Volunteers are assigned to each course. On each course there will be 12
kids with adult chaperones
and 2-3 course trainers. Parents/adults are supposed to work with their
child, not stand on the
sidelines drinking coffee while they watch you! These are the steps that
will be taught at the event.
We can easily teach you! Here are two quick tutorials
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADkm4qkXAj8 or
https://www.cityofmadison.com/bikeMadison/getBiking/learntoride.cfm
1. Walking and balancing while sitting on the seat.
2. Gliding/beginning to pick up alternating feet.
3. Doing frog pushes with both feet & longer glides with both legs kicking
up and back.
4. Demonstrate the “frog” push and long glide to get pedals put back on.
5. Start out with same motion/mechanics as before. Gain momentum before
putting feet on
pedals. Once moving –find pedals with feet, keep pedaling while looking
forward.
