In the context of a DNS-centred newsgroup/mailing list Chris' answer was excellent. Whether the original author was asking about the DNS is, of course, slightly open to question. Unfortunately, as you imply, computing, and network related fields in particular, are full of multivalued terms. They have to be disambiguated by referring to their particular, errm, domain.
