First of all thanks for the fast response. Maybe I misunderstood the Bind9 manual. Bind9 ARM says:
recursive-clients The maximum number of simultaneous recursive lookups the server will perform on behalf of clients I understand that as recursive lookups that are issued to other name servers. The statement in the documentation and the parameter name doesn't say anything on iterative queries. And I read that statement - maybe I need new glasses - as a limitation applicable to forwarded lookups not resolved by the DNS master / slave zones locally available. So in my understanding it doesn't cover what I want.
