steps of 1GB or memory used crossed 1GB? I have no problem with that - our BIND processes (authoritative tor some domains, caching everything other) take around 1GB after one month.

I also hope you don't provide recursion for the whole net. That could explain much.

Do you run authoritative servers for private and special subnets?
(rfc 5735 named them all). Do you run own .local and .localhost zone?
