I for my part do normally not link dig against protobuf at all:
$ pkg info bind-tools | grep DNSTAP
DNSTAP : off
Currently, I am still building the 2024Q4, so I was grateful for your
heads-up, there might be a problem with dns/protobuf.
I started a test, switched the DNSTAP to on, and rebuilt. And there
were no problems.

Well then I might assume, something broken was installed before.
That is probably one of the examples for why I recommend to run
your own deploy-chain, build on-site, and know exactly what you build.
