Software Carpentry's mission is to help researchers become more productive by teaching them core computing skills needed on a small research team. Short tutorials alternate with practical exercises, and all instruction is done via live coding. This two-day, hands-on workshop will cover basic concepts and tools for scientific computing, including: the basics of structured programming in Python or R; version control using Git, Mercurial, or Subversion; strategies to test code; and automating tasks using the Unix shell.
