Dear Linux users,

CBIIT has long supported Windows and Mac operating systems in NCI, and we are
excited to announce that we are getting ready to support Linux on the desktop
as well. However, the way we're going to do this is a little different than for
mainstream OSes. In the spirit of creating a vibrant Linux user community, we
are asking you to participate in development of a Linux community of practice
in NCI -- a virtual community of NCI Linux users who can identify support needs
and help each other solve problems. By convention, we will call this the NCI
Linux Users Group (NLUG). This will be composed of people like you, and it will
be supported by a growing team of Linux experts in CBIIT.

How can you join the NCI Linux Users Group?

1. Join the NCI-LINUX-DESKTOP listserv here:
https://list.nih.gov/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A0=nci-linux-desktop Participate in the
discussions; ask questions; help others.

2. Take a look at the NCI Desktop Linux forum on our Confluence wiki and help
it grow with your contributions:
https://collaborate.nci.nih.gov/display/LDSF Share this URL with your
Linux-using co-workers. The wiki has a discussion board for sharing tips and
best practices. It also has a blog feature that you are encouraged to use.

3. If you're comfortable with using Linux as your primary desktop, and it would
benefit your work activities, ask the CBIIT desktop Linux team to talk with you
about installing CentOS. Send your request to the "NCI Linux Desktop" DL.

All this information and more is on the NCI Desktop Linux Confluence wiki.

Thanks,
CBIIT's Linux Desktop Team
