Subject: Applications accepted for NIH Carpentries Instructor Training Session

The NIH will host an Instructor Training Session for the Carpentries, January
29-30, 2020 from 9 am to 5 pm both days, at the NIH Library. Because this
session is limited to 15 participants, interested individuals are asked to
complete an application
form<https://nlmenterprise.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3sykUPOHR1TCtqR> no
later than December 12. Participant selection will be based on Institute/Center
(to ensure representation from across NIH), interest, familiarity with tools,
and ability to commit to teaching a two-day Carpentries session at NIH over the
next year (typically from 9 am - 5 pm). Participants will be expected to be
attend the full 9 am - 5 pm session on both days. Additional information,
including a sample agenda, is available at the Carpentries
website<https://carpentries.github.io/instructor-training/>.

Participants selected to participate will be notified by December 13, 2019 and
must register via the Carpentries website no later than December 18, 2019 to
reserve their space.

The class will be hands-on throughout: short lessons will alternate with
individual and group practical exercises, including practice teaching sessions.
Those who complete the two full days and some short follow-up exercises
online<https://carpentries.github.io/instructor-training/checkout/> will be
certified to teach Software Carpentry<https://software-carpentry.org/>, Data
Carpentry<http://datacarpentry.org/>, and Library
Carpentry<https://librarycarpentry.org/> workshops.
· All participants in this course are required to abide by the
Carpentries' Code of
Conduct<https://docs.carpentries.org/topic_folders/policies/code-of-conduct.html>.
· There are no specific prerequisites for this training, but
participants will benefit from having attended a Data Carpentry or Software
Carpentry workshop either as learner or helper so that they are familiar with
our teaching techniques and the style of our workshops.
· In particular, participants are not required to have any specific
programming skills (though of course they should know enough about the subjects
of one or more of our lessons to be able to teach them).
