Your Linux machine can be a router without the use of *any* routing protocol 
daemon at all. Daemons are used when you want your router to exchange route 
information with other routers/networks for dynamic routing updates. If your 
routes are static, you can configure them in the network configuration in your 
machine and that's sufficient.
