AMHERST I. [page 36, quad E 54 & 55]

Recent reports from Amherst Island indicate difficulty in finding any E.
SAW-WHET OWLS or LONG-EARED OWLS. ------- SNOWY OWLS are still around and
some SHORT-EARED OWLS. This seems to be a poor time for the Owl Woods at
Amherst Island.

WOLFE I. [page 36, quads E56, 57 & 58]

On Jan. 4/03, Gerald & Shirley Paul birded Wolfe Island north to south from
9th line west for four hours and observed 27 species including 108 TUNDRA
SWANS, 55 WILD TURKEYS (near intersection of Hwy 95 and 7th Line), a mature
BALD EAGLE, 2 SNOWY OWLS, 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS, 2 flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS (a
total of 48), & 5 COMMON REDPOLLS. The only hawks seen were 2 AM. KESTRELS.

On Jan. 8, 16 members of the North Leeds Birders (NLB) birded Wolfe I.. An
adult gray morph male GYRFALCON was found south of Hwy 96 near Mill Pt. (It
was refound independently by Bob and Marilyn Greggs 2 hours later at the
Simcoe I. Ferry Lane). Other interesting NLB sightings included 200+ TUNDRA
SWANS, 3 BALD EAGLES, 7 WILD TURKEYS, 1 or 2 N. SHRIKES, 1 SONG SPARROW, 1
LAPLAND LONGSPUR and 200+ SNOW BUNTINGS.

OTHER SIGHTINGS

At Cartwright Point {page 49, quad N20} on Jan. 9, a CAROLINA WREN was at
feeders at 14 The Point Rd.. On Jan. 11, a N. SHRIKE was seen by the same
feeders. 2 hours later the SHRIKE was seen again in flight and calling, a
small bird in its beak.

Chris Grooms reported for Jan. 1, 10 AM. ROBINS and for Jan. 4, a C. RAVEN,
both were at Wilton [page 36, quad C54]
