OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE FRIDAY JANUARY 17 AT 11 AM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

The most interesting report this week comes from the Lac Lablanche
area north of Mayo Québec. On the 12th, a GRAY JAY was heard
calling on chemin Ruth which runs of Burns which runs between
chemin Riviere Blanche and chemin Smalian. In the same general
area there were also 3 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 2 Purple Finches,
1 Common Redpoll and 10 White-winged Crossbills including singing
males, as well as plenty of Black-capped Chickadees, Blue Jays,
Red-breasted Nuthatches, 7 Common Ravens, 2 Dark-eyed Juncos, 2
Tree Sparrows and 5 American Goldfinch.

Also on the 12th, a Snowy Owl was on the ice above the Deschenes
Rapids. 13 Glaucous and 1 Iceland Gull were at the Trail Rd
landfill, a Song Sparrow was seen on Hertzberg Rd in Kanata and
approximately 2000 Snow Buntings were feeding along Wall Rd.
Several hundred Snow Buntings were also at Conroy and Bleeks near
Munster on the 13th.

A Northern Flicker briefly visited a feeder on the 13th on Belair
Dr where the Dickcissel was found last year and an adult male
Peregrine Falcon was on the south side of the R H Coates Building
the same afternoon.

On the 14th, a Merlin was found downtown on Bay St south of
Laurier. A Belted Kingfisher is still on the Rideau in Manotick
north of the Bridge St bridge and a Field Sparrow remains at Hilda
Rd feeder at Shirley's Bay.

Finally, a single Wild Turkey was seen on January 15 along
Fallowfield, north of Cedarview Rd.

Thank-you. Good birding.
