Bryan Wyatt reported (and photographed) a Red-necked Grebe in the Otonabee
River just south of Lakefield yesterday. It was still there this morning,
Thursday Jan. 30, at 10:30 a.m. It's a 'good' bird in Peterborough Co. at
any time of the year. It was with Common Mergansers and Common Goldeneye.

Directions:

Go north on Co. Rd. 29 (former Hwy 28) from Peterborough, go into the
village of Lakefield and cross the bridge, then immediately turn right
(east) onto Water St. and follow this along the river. At the edge of town
(less than 1 km.) there is a little parking area by the river. Bryan saw it
from there. I saw it a few 100 meters to the south. Just below this, the
river freezes over.

>From Hwy 134 turn left (west) at Block Rd. (I believe the sign is on the
east side of the road and points the wrong way!!!) (a.k.a Co. Rd. 33) and
this runs into the little parking area described above. If you come to
Strickland St/Rd you have gone too far north.
