An adult and a second summer Lesser Black-backed Gull were seen today on
the eastern side of Peacock Point. Both birds were well off shore perched
and flying above the water with Herring and several Greater Black-backed
Gulls. I have seen Lesser Black-backed here before (last summer). A scope
would be handy but is not essential.
Peacock Point is located east of the Hydro plant at Nanticoke on Lake
Erie. From Regional Rd. 3 go south on Sandusk Rd. 2 km to lake, then east 2
km to Peacock Pt. A small road running along the east side of the point has
a public access trail running down to the water. Red-necked Grebes were also
seen. 4 birds were at Port Ryerese (about 5 km west of Port Dover) and about
15 were at Haldimand Conservation Area which is about 1 km west of Peacock
Pt and along Lake Erie.
