Highlights of the many reports received from the Niagara Frontier Region during the past two weeks, April 10 through 24, include VERMILLION FLYCATCHER, ROSS'S GOOSE, GR. WHITE- FR. GOOSE, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and GOLDEN EAGLE. April 19, at the western edge of the BOS study area, south of Cayuga, Ontario, a female VERMILLION FLYCATCHER was reported one day only, in a barnyard on Irish Lane Road. If verified, this would be the first record of this species from the southwestern US and Mexico, in the BOS territory. Three rare species from the Lake Ontario Plains. April 22, a ROSS'S GOOSE in a small flock of CANADA GEESE along Carmen Road in the Niagara County Town of Hartland. April 13, a GR. WHITE-FR. GOOSE on Niagara-Orleans Countyline Road at Route 18. And a probable LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE also on the 13th at Route 63 and East Lakeshore Road in the Orleans County Town of Yates. April 20, a well described GOLDEN EAGLE was reported migrating over Navy Island in the Niagara River off Grand Island. BROAD-WINGED HAWKS have begun their mass movement to the north. April 18, 208 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were registered at the Hamburg Hawkwatch, and on April 19, 1905 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and 2 GOLDEN EAGLES among over 2400 raptors. A great sight in Amherst, during the evening on the 19th, a series of over 60 low flying TURKEY VULTURES dropping down to roost for the night. Early migrants - BL.-THR. GREEN WARB. April 19 at Goat Island in Niagara Falls and a reported VEERY on April 20 at Lakeside Beach State Park in Carlton, which would be a record early arrival. Many other migrants noted during the past two weeks - over 300 RED-NECKED GREBES on Lake Ontario, small flocks of COMMON TERNS on the Niagara River, and numerous reports of YELLOW-B. SAPSUCKER, N. ROUGH-W. SWALLOW, BARN SWALLOW, RED-BR. NUTHATCH, BROWN CREEPER, WINTER WREN, GOLDEN-CR. KINGLET, RUBY-CR. KINGLET, HERMIT THRUSH, BROWN THRASHER, YELLOW-R. WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, EASTERN TOWHEE and nine sparrows - CHIPPING SPARROW, FIELD SPARROW, VESPER SPARROW, SAVANNAH SPARROW, FOX SPARROW, SONG SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW, WHITE-THR. SPARROW and WHITE-CR. SPARROW. The Motor Island heronry is busy with 60 GREAT BLUE HERONS, 6 GREAT EGRETS and 23 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS. Shorebirds in the Town of Elba on the West Muckland dirt road off Route 98 included 137 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 71 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 366 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 19 DUNLIN and 3 WILSON'S SNIPE. In Amherst, AMERICAN WOODCOCKS were noted along the Ellicott Creek Trail. Winter birds overlapping into spring included ICELAND GULL, L. BLACK-B. GULL and GLAUCOUS GULL in the Town of Wilson on April 13. Breeding plumage BONAPARTE'S GULLS on the Niagara River, AMER.
