I recently received this information from my sister, who witnessed a strange event Saturday morning at her home in Windsor. The house is about 3 km from the lake, and about 1.5 km from the closest bit of habitat that could support a common moorhen (at Little River). The bird was in her front yard, immediately after a thunderstorm. It was asleep on the top of a small hedge! It fed among the hedges and ornamental plantings for about 30 minutes, then it flew off. Now, this happened on the same day that I heard a whipp-poor-will calling at 11 a.m. on a sunny morning at Pelee, so was this strange activity the aftereffects of the storm?
