Hi Everybody,

Today (Sunday, 25 May) was a fine day for birding here in northern Muskoka.
This morning Wayne Renaud and I birded the Bracebridge Sewage Lagoons and
the adjacent Henry Road Marsh. Here are the highlights of our 56 species
there:

2 Virginia Rail
1 Sora
1 Semipalmated Plover
2 Least Sandpiper
3 Black-billed Cuckoo
1 Olive-sided Flycatcher
1 Yellow-throated Vireo

This evening I was told an owl nest east of Huntsville I eventually got to
the site and found 2 adult and 4 recently fledged BARRED OWLS in the area.

Bracebridge Sewage Lagoons are in the town of Bracebridge, which is about
two hours north of Toronto on Hwy. 400 and 11. The lagoons can be reached
by taking Hwy. 118 west from Hwy 11 and following it to Beaumont Drive.
Turn left on Beaumont and go about 1 km to Kerr Park (on your left). Park
in the big lot and walk south, up the grassy hill to the lagoons. Henry
Road Marsh can be reached by walking about 1 km west along the Trans-Canada
trail, west of the south-westernmost lagoon.

The Barred Owls were mobile and not likely to be in the area much longer,
but can be reached by going about 10 km east of Huntsville on Hwy. 60 to
Limberlost Road. Once at Limberlost road, turn north for about 10 km to
Billie Bear Road. Go north on Billie Bear about 300 m to the large, sawn
log across the road and look in the canopy for the fledged young.
